Supporting Children & Families in the North Central Region
Many children in our region are not able to attend preschool programs due to economic and geographic issues. We are developing Play and Learn Together Boxes which will contain learning materials plus instructions for parents/caregivers on how to teach their preschool children basic skills in a fun and engaging manner. Agencies and outreach workers will be distributing the Boxes. We wish to thank the Credit Unions of BC for their financial support and our other community partners Canfor, Fortis and a growing number of other companies and groups who see the value of what we are doing and are contributing to the project.
It is difficult and costly for those who work with children in our region to travel to Vancouver or other distant communities for training or skill development. We have found a simple solution - bring the training to the north. By forming partnerships with agencies and trainers we have been able to bring training here and the sessions have been full. This year we will be offering training workshops for SibShop and Mother Goose on the Loose. Our community coordinators have also been successful in holding workshops in their communities and opening registration to the surrounding region.
The North Central region covers a very large geograhic area with communities seperated by large distances and some are very remote. One of our primary goals is to provide a network of support, information and ideas for early years professionals in all communities.
